Core's Vision

Technology Vision 2020 recognizes the need for quality manpower and therefore, quality higher education for transformation of India from a developing one to a developed one.The first-ever concerted effort in the area of higher education, the Mission REACH(Relevance and Excellence in Achieving new heights in educational Institutions), conceptualized by Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India targets realizing excellence in areas of relevance to Indian industries and in turn, the society.It emphasizes on a structured mechanism to produce world-class manpower of high relevance to Indian industries/organizations.
The Technology Information,Forecasting and assessment Council (TIFAC) was launched by DST under the vision and for this purpose, various centre for Relevance and Excellence (CORE) are being targeted.

CORE’s profile – Techno India initiative

Techno India group is one of the largest knowledge-management groups in India, dedicated to the cause of development of Education, Research and Entrepreneurship in Science, Technology, Management and Medicine.Headed by Chairman –Shri Goutam RoyChowdhury, the group constitutes of 15 engineering colleges across different states.
Techno India, Salt Lake has been recognized for its excellence in academic, infrastructure facilities, faculty and students and hence selected to establish a Centre of Relevance and Excellence (CORE) in Food Process Technology and Quality Control by TIFAC, DST.

TIFAC-CORE at Techno India is one of its kind in eastern zone involving intense participation of the college itself, the government and the relevant user organisation (s)/industry (s).It is nucleated by TIFAC, nestled by academic institution and nurtured by the interest of the industries, partnering in it. This centre has been established with a Food microbiology and Bio-chemistry lab, Food chemistry and nutrition lab,Food analysis and quality control lab,Food processing lab, lab and Food process engineering and unit operation lab.

Benefits of the Industry through CORE:

•   Industry can shape the CORE into a highly productive Human Resource Centre of their own.
•   It can adopt the Centre as their “Innovation backyard” to benefit themselves.
•   It can access the entire physical assets as well as individual assets in diverse disciplines available in the entire 80-100 COREs.

Benefits of the educational institute through CORE:

•   Intense focus on a subject of high relevance to industries will enable the CORE to acquire the  status of a mini-IIT.
•   Under the Mission, the host institute will enable to form a strong network with other institutions or organizations of the same field.
•   CORE brings with it a visibility of a high order to the host institution.
