Workshop on “IPR: Challenges and Opportunities” , 5th February’09, in collaboration with Patent Information Centre, West Bengal State Council of Science and Technology, DST and Govt. of W.B.
A continuing education programme on Food Preservation Technology was conducted as a first step-in programme to educate the industry people for doing their excellence in their relevant field. Many participants from food industries attended this 21 days education programme. Mr. Dipankar Ganguly from Parle India inaugurated the programme and discussed about the industry academic interface. Prof. A. K. Bhattacharyya.
Co-ordinator ,TIFAC –CORE had given a marvelous speech introducing the TIFAC activities to industry persons. The duration of the programme was for 21days. Certificates were distributed among participants at the ending session by Dr. Rina Paladhi, Registrar Techno India after the programme was over.They were also exposed to hand on experience in food processing laboratory.

Horti and Food Fest 2010At Milan Mela Ground,Kolkatan 9th – 13th January 2010
Horti-food fest, 2010 was organized by the department of Horticulture and Food Processing, West Bengal. TIFAC-CORE, Techno India, actively participated in this fest by giving its own stall under TIFAC programme, along with other academic institutes and food processing industries. Posters, related to TIFAC –CORE activities, its laboratory facilities and research activities were displayed. Some beverage products, Amla Delite, Lemon refreshment, Energy drink ; developed in the research and development wing of TIFAC, were also displayed at the stall. The stall fetched very good response from visitors. Interaction was very positive with many fresh entrepreneurs, person from food processing industries, NGO group and students of Food technology. Also some positive responses from small and medium scale industries were noticeable.

Many participating food industries also showed their interest to build up interactive platform with TIFAC-CORE at Techno India which includes Keventer Agro, MPS, Fritolays, Haldiram, Mother Dairy, Roma Oils, Priya Biscuits Pvt. Ltd., Benfish. CORE-Techno India also received many inquiries regarding consultancy and future collaborative work. |

Seminar on “Herbal Foods and Its Prospects” on 26th March 2010.

A seminar on Herbal Foods and Its Prospects was organized by TIFAC-CORE, Techno India on 26th March 2010. at the Conference Hall, Techno India, Salt Lake. The seminar was inaugurated by Dr. Prabir Banerjee, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Food Processing Industries & Horticulture, Government of West Bengal. He discussed the various markets of herbal foods and encouraged the product development in this field. Efforts for the development of some of the herbal products at the TIFAC-CORE, like herbal cookies, got appreciation. He also emphasized on the growth potential of herbal foods in the coming years and encouraged researchers to work in this field.

Under TIFAC-CORE Programme

One STP was held at TIFAC-CORE, Techno India. The program was conducted by the TIFAC-CORE from 2nd to 6th August, 2010.

TIFAC-CORE, Techno India organized a STP on “Testing of quality parameters for alcoholic beverages” from 2nd to 6th of August, 2010 at the department of Food Technology. Both industry persons and final year B.Tech students from Food Technology background participated in this 5 day extensive training programme. The dignitaries, Dr. D. P.Nag, Secretary Bengal National Chamber of Commerce & Industries and Mr. P.Barik, Director, Ministry of food processing, and horticulture, Govt. of West Bengal were present in the inaugural session. Prof. S.K.Bhattacharyya, principal Techno India, was the chief guest for the session. Mr.Nag pointed out the sheer difference between supply and demand of alcoholic beverages in West Bengal. Mr. Nag also mentioned that state has to bring the product from other states of India to makeup the demand for liquor in West Bengal. Mr. P.Barik delivered an informative speech regarding status of alcoholic beverages and also presented total scenario of fruit and vegetable processing in Bengal. Mr. Barik also added that this kind of training on quality aspects of alcoholic beverages is a needful approach to serve for the industry and common people as well.
Lectures were delivered from different alcohol industries,UB group and IMFL division of IFB Agro and also from academic institutes, Jadavpur University.They shared their experience in different sectors of brewing, distillation, sensory evaluation and overall HACCP of the process.
Participants were involved in hand-on practical experiments for detailed chemical and microbiological analysis of variety of alcoholic beverages with the guidance of the course co-ordinators Mrs. Aditi Roy Chowdhury and Mrs. Jayati Pal. Experiment methodology were based on BIS protocol for alcoholic beverages e.g. beer, wine, whisky etc. |
